DESCRIPTION The Digital Communications Specialist provides creative writing with a passion for social media with an emphasis on marketing and promoting marine sciences. Works creatively with the Director of Marketing and the graphic designer/photographer in planning and implementing creating effective marketing and branding campaigns. Creates social media content and coordination with cross-functional units, develops content calendar, writes and edits blogs and e-blasts, maintains website and consults on digital ad strategy. This position will use digital media to drive engagement and increase the aquarium’s visibility across platforms, connecting with a variety of audiences. Creates project milestones and analyzes engagement data to measure the department’s success. Assigned projects that include collaborating with Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s Web Team on a complete redesign of the website Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including any evenings, weekends and holidays, as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum three years experience in marketing, communications, new media strategy, or related field is required. Bachelors degree in communications or related field or equivalent education and/or experience. Demonstrated work experience in reviewing/editing writing for stylistic consistency, logic, organization, factual accuracy, rational development of content and emphasis. Required Experience with consistent branding and communicating brand messaging through design work, publications, social media, etc. Demonstrated knowledge of multiple social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterist and LinkedIn. Thorough skills to write clear, lively, engaging and compelling copy in a variety of styles appropriate to target audiences and / or the broader public, while ensuring adherence to the location’s message. Demonstrated knowledge to analyze social media raw data into meaningful and useful information for marketing/communication purposes. Solid knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, strategies and best practices. Solid knowledge of institutional products and services. Knowledge of the campus and / or medical center including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives and infrastructure. Knowledge of customer service standards / procedures. Organizational skills and skills in file creation, maintenance and management. Written and interpersonal communication skills. Experience managing a complex cross-platform content calendar. Experience managing both paid and organic digital media. Knowledge of website management and best practices.
