Bloomington, Indiana,, Department ARTS & SCIENCES; DEAN (BL-ARSD-IUBLA) Department Information Our team is responsible for communications and marketing projects that advance the mission and strengthen the brand of the IU College of Arts and Sciences. We focus on College-wide initiatives, including brand development and management, user-focused website development for our departments and programs, and recruitment marketing strategy and products. Job Summary Department-Specific Responsibilities Creates and manages a complex business unit structure for the College’s digital campus, which spans the offices of the executive dean and the College’s 70 academic programs and departments. Supports information technologists and digital leaders in IU Studios on the multi-year development of an advanced version of IU Salesforce, and on the creation of a more robust and functional CRM. Manages the College’s ongoing digital marketing and communications workflow. Produces and deploys email campaigns. Conducts information audits. Analyzes data in the email and web space to create reports. Works alongside IT specialists and information architects in IU’s University Information Technology Services to create a logical and functional approaches to digital communications and marketing. Modernizes and optimizes communications and marketing practices across the College by working with College and campus partners to coordinate data-driven CRM enhancements. Builds and deploys mission-critical email and web campaigns in IU’s Salesforce instance that support College recruitment and communications initiatives. Reports and interprets digital marketing analytics in order to enable the team to work, improve, and evolve in a data-rich environment. Manages the College’s robust digital marketing calendar. General Responsibilities Directs day-to-day operations for the digital marketing function by providing oversight and direction within a department or large multi-faceted department. Trains, evaluates, coaches, assigns work, and supervises the work of a team of digital marketing staff. Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders; determines digital marketing needs, projects, and programs to align with objectives and goals and supervises processes such as the development of digital marketing timelines related to such initiatives. Reviews drafts of digital marketing strategies and content and coaches on grammar, tone, branding guidelines, formatting, and other elements that may affect the perception of messaging or reputation of the department. Responds to escalated and complex inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications. Regularly monitors relevant social media and news sites; researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty. May assist in budget planning and administration for communications initiatives, including expenditures, revenue projections, and program costs. Monitors industry trends and best practices and makes process and operational and strategic recommendations to manager. Qualifications EDUCATION Required Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations, or related field WORK EXPERIENCE Required 2 years in relevant field Combinations of related education and experience may be considered SKILLS Required Proficient communication skills Maintains a high degree of professionalism Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills Demonstrates a high commitment to quality Excellent organizational skills Excellent collaboration and team building skills Effectively coaches and delivers constructive feedback Instills commitment to organizational goals Preferred Expert web content management system skills with an understanding of best practices related to user experience and other current trends in digital and website design Expert email marketing and data segmentation skills, experience with Salesforce and/or Slate (or similar systems), and familiarity with SQL Experience working in partnership with information technology teams in order to effectively communicate the scope and goals of strategic technical projects Experience in web design, the ability to manipulate and troubleshoot front-end code such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript, and knowledge of back-end code such as PHP Experience in email design with the ability to manipulate and troubleshoot HTML, CSS, and AMPscript Experience working with Google Analytics (or similar reporting tools) and experience applying insights to web, email, and social media with the goal of supporting and improving best practices and strategies that increase awareness of the College, encourage engagement, and generate measurable, specific calls to action. Expert project management skills with a high degree of self-motivation and personal organization, including the ability to manage and meet a busy schedule of digital creation, production, and execution Strong written communications skills with the ability to read and edit email and other digital content and assess its relevance and quality in relation to the strategic goals of the project Fundamental knowledge of branding, marketing, and public communications principles, including digital and web communication strategies Experience working in a client relations or customer service role with the ability to relate both professionally and in a friendly manner to constituents and colleagues, and to provide high-quality customer service to a wide variety of constituents Experience working in a higher education environment and/or at IU Experience with paid digital advertising, SMS messaging, social media, and mobile push notification strategies Ability to carry out market research, including surveys and focus groups, to assess the effectiveness of web-based communications efforts Ability to articulate and engage with the vision and strategic priorities of the College’s communications and marketing mission with an appreciation for and ability to relate enthusiastically to the mission and values of a liberal arts-focused institution Enthusiasm for teamwork and team spirit; ability to ask questions, help problem solve, and support team members when projects are nearing completion deadlines Strong interpersonal and communication skills Detail oriented Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment.
