USA – MA – Cambridge, The Communications and Digital Marketing Manager in the Office of Career Advancement (OCA) is a critical member of the dynamic, mission-driven OCA team at Harvard Kennedy School. Working across OCA’s career coaching and employer relations teams, the Communications and Digital Marketing Manager will develop, execute, and project manage OCA’s strategic communication priorities, events, activities, and initiatives and build relationships with HKS community members and external stakeholders. In coordinating OCA communications, the successful candidate will work closely with all OCA team members to develop effective print, digital, and social media products and messaging—from concept to implementation—for external and internal audiences. The manager leads the writing and editing of strategic messaging and content for OCA print materials, OCA-related pages on the HKS website and intranet, and social media platforms (Instagram and LinkedIn). The manager will help conceptualize events as needed and plan and manage all communications (messages, social media posts, materials, publicity, etc.) in support of the event. The manager will use marketing and social media analytics to measure engagement and adjust marketing strategies as needed. Additionally, the manager will oversee a part-time HKS student partner. To be successful in this role, the manager must have impeccable writing, communication, and digital marketing skills, have familiarity with social media platforms and management, be highly organized, detail oriented, and independent, have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and remain calm under pressure. Web writing, editing, and content management: Work in Sharepoint and Drupal content management systems to write, edit, and maintain webpages on the external and internal OCA websites. Coordinate directly with OCA colleagues to write, edit, and update content regularly and ensure that the editorial voice and style are in alignment with HKS guidelines. Coordinate, write, and edit weekly digital OCA newsletter. Manage OCA’s active social media presence on Instagram and LinkedIn. Collaborate with the Degree Programs and Student Affairs (DPSA) communications team and the Office of Communication and Public Affairs (OCPA) to ensure that web content is developed to follow best practices (search engine optimization, page scrolls, etc.). Social media: Manage all aspects of OCA’s social media presence on Instagram and LinkedIn, including conceptualizing future posts, creating an informed social media editorial calendar, researching students/alumni/employers to highlight, sharing content from partner employers, other career offices, and other HKS/Harvard departments, developing templates, conducting interviews to acquire quotes and content, increasing followership, and monitoring analytics and engagement. Copyediting: Edit content and a range of materials, including coaching and employer collateral and email communications to be in alignment with the HKS editorial and style guidelines. Editorial management: Collaborate closely with OCA team members from start to finish, to conceptualize, write, design, print, and deliver print and digital materials for key OCA events, employer recruitment, and for student and alumni communities. Develop detailed event and project plans, editorial calendars, and timelines and monitor progress to deliver projects on time and ensure that quality standards are met. Seek opportunities for improvement and present ideas proactively for future projects Support the OCA team in the production of visual materials and presentations, and, as appropriate, in finding new and creative ways of reaching our target audiences Design: In close coordination with the DPSA communications team, design templates, digital components for the weekly OCA newsletter, signage (physical and digital), and other deliverables as they arise—all in alignment with the HKS brand guidelines and University trademark policies. Events management: Work closely with OCA teammates to plan, execute, and promote OCA events, including professional development and employer events. Conceptualize events as needed and plan and manage all communications (messages, social media posts, materials, publicity, etc.) in support of the event. Serve as OCA’s representative to school-wide communications committees and OCPA. Inventory management: Manage in-house collateral inventory and order new inventory as needed. Excellent writing and editing skills required. Understanding of Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) Experience with CRM and email service providers (SalesForce Marketing Cloud, MailChimp, etc.), social media management platforms (Sprout Social, Hootesuite, etc.), Sharepoint, Drupal, HTML as well as Symplicity career management system and web-based survey software all a very strong plus. Design experience and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) preferred. Familiarity with digital accessibility best practices. Experience working in higher education or a mission-driven organization a plus. Training in social media, data visualization, or data analytics advantageous. Strong interpersonal skills and high degree of emotional intelligence to build positive, effective relationships with a range of constituents are paramount.
